The Healthcare Transparency Register
The Healthcare Transparency Register Foundation manages a central register with data on certain financial relationships between healthcare providers, healthcare institutions, patient organizations and companies. This data provides the general public with more insight into the financial relationships of healthcare providers with pharmaceutical companies, the veterinary medicine industry and companies in medical devices. The data will remain on the Healthcare Transparency Register website for three years.
Joint efforts by healthcare providers and companies
The Foundation is a collaboration between healthcare providers and companies. Together, they have agreed to make these forms of collaboration public. The specific arrangements regarding collaborations are laid down in laws and codes of conduct. Healthcare providers and companies have recorded in contracts who discloses the financial relationship and how this is done.
Financial relationships in the Netherlands
The register generally includes the financial relationships entered into by companies based in the Netherlands. Is there collaboration with a company based abroad? In that case, the Dutch branch of the company typically reports this relationship. The healthcare provider or healthcare institution can also report the relationship to the register.
